Thoughts on Book Reviews

Which diet or health book?

There are many diet and health books on the market today. Which one best fits your lifestyle and needs is often difficult to determine. I have read several of them and there is always something I can learn from them. Yet I do not choose to follow every idea in the book, instead I mix and match something from all of them. I choose books that come from reliable sources like the, The American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes Association and The American Heart Association. I also choose books that have a special interest to me such as holistic healing, healing with nutrition and supplements and some vegetarian health and diet books. I stay away from any fad or product books that have wild and outlandish claims.

 A Balanced approach to nutrition.

A Balanced approach to nutrition.

A balanced approach to nutrition makes the most sense to me. We need the nutrients from each food group so that our body can work well for us. Some of us have special nutritional needs for a health condition that we have. Diabetes is something that can be controlled and treated with a balanced diet. Heart disease can be significantly improved by eating a proper diet. Many of the diseases today can be treated or significantly improved just by improving our diet.

Avoid processed foods.

Today my goal is to avoid processed foods as much as possible. I truly believe that the cancer rate would drop by simply avoiding these types of foods. And that many other diseases would be significantly improved by avoiding the chemicals these products add to our bodies. No I do not have any scientific evidence that proves this but there are plenty of research studies that have been done that indicate these foods may cause cancer and other health problems. So it makes sense to stay away from them.

The Book Reviews

The reviews I write will reflect these principles. My hope is to help others improve their life through diet and healthy lifestyle choices. Some reviews will involve recipes so we can enjoy what we eat. Others may contain information to help us make better life style choices.

    Hi Robin,

This is a great site! I try my best to feed my family healthy foods. I love to cook, which helps with eliminating a lot of the processed foods that many people eat. I hadn’t heard of the GPDB before and need to look into that. I know some people that could really benefit from it. And it’s convenience! I try to buy organic foods as much as I can. We also really focus on buying locally grown and harvested foods. I appreciate all the dedication you’ve put into the site here and look forward to reading more!

    Sincerely,

    Amy

Hello Amy and thank you for visiting. Sounds like you are doing the best you can for your family. This will be a reward for them as they grow. It is difficult to buy quality during the winter however during the summer there are so many local farm stands and markets it is a lot easier. Keep up the good work, you are taking great care of your family.
